GREEN ENERGY TO INSPIRE YOUR ORGANISATION

We are committed to bringing you 100% sustainably-sourced energy contracts.

We are committed to green energy.

At Energy-Smarts, we understand how important green energy and moving to net zero emissions is for everyone’s future – and how important it is for our clients.

That's why in 2019 we committed to go with 100% renewable electricity sources on our risk-managed baskets by default - unless clients actively choose to opt-out.

We continue our endeavours to secure as much electricity for our portolios from renewable sources as possible, to help our clients towards their environmental goals, and as part of our commitment to help reduce climate change by supporting a cleaner energy supply to the grid.

Generators of green energy are provided with a government certificate as evidence that they have produced power which is 100% renewable. This certificate is called a Guarantee of Origin.  It can then be passed on to suppliers and customers as proof that the power procured is from a sustainable source.

As well as supplying our risk-managed electricity baskets with green contracts automatically, by policy we favour working with great electricity suppliers who have a progressive green sourcing policy.

WHAT IS 'GREEN' ENERGY?

Green energy is energy that is produced from renewal sources such as natural resources like sunlight, wind and water.  This is obviously much better for the environment than burning fossil fuels for energy which emit gases that are harmful for the environment.

There are a number of ways you can employ green energy and reduce your carbon footprint.  This could be by choosing green supply contracts or by installing equipment at your premises to generate your own green energy on-site.  Some of these are shown below:

Solar power

Panels fitted to your premises use light from the sun to create electricity or heat water. They work best on south facing roofs which get the most sunlight.

Wind energy

You can install a small wind turbine at your premises to generate your own electricity. They work well in the UK because of the windy weather, and can be maintained for many years via maintenance checks every few years.

There are other types of green energy, and many are produced on a larger scale, such as:

Hydroelectricity

which converts energy from water, like rivers or streams.

BIOMASS

like crops, manure, or wood which can be burned for heat.

GEOTHERMAL

uses heat from the earth’s core to produce electricity or heat.

BIODIESEL

fuel which is made from natural oils can be used in cars.
